Its thought that stress a compromised immune system poor grooming habits and other skin conditions may trigger the acne.

Often feline acne goes unnoticed as its symptoms are sometimes mild. Some cats have a single breakout while others have recurring symptoms. There appears to be no rhyme or reason regarding age breed or sex of cats affected by chin acne but some sources say it is more common in cats between two and four years old because of hormones.

Mild cases will look like dirt on the cats chin but the dirt will not brush off. Feline acne is a skin disorder affecting the chin of cats where hair follicles clog with oil and dead skin cells to form blackheads. Feline acne can also be related to allergies or trauma.

Your cat may have feline acne which can occur in cats of any age or breed. More severe cases however may respond slowly to treatment and seriously detract from the health and appearance of the cat. Appearing as small bumps it often looks similar to the blackheads or whiteheads that humans get.
